Platform comparison
Framer vs Wix: which is right for your business website?
The short answer
Framer is usually the better choice for design-led marketing sites and landing pages, with a lower platform fee and built-in A/B testing. Wix is stronger when you need a shop, bookings, many apps or a multilingual site in one dashboard. Here's how they compare on cost, editing, SEO, ecommerce and ownership.
Our verdict
Pick Framer if your website is mainly about brand, content and generating enquiries, and you want precise design control and landing page testing. Pick Wix if you want stores, bookings, apps and languages managed in one place, or need custom backend code through Wix Studio. Both host your site for you and neither lets you export it, so the choice comes down to features, not ownership. If selling online is the core of your business, also consider Shopify.
The detail
At a glance
Cost: Framer's paid plans start at $10 a month. Wix's plans cost more but bundle more business tools, including ecommerce on the higher tiers.
Editing: Both are visual and easy for non-technical teams. Wix Studio adds real-time co-editing and a Content Mode that stops clients changing the design.
Design freedom: Framer is a design tool first. Wix Studio offers responsive layouts, custom CSS and full coding tools for more complex functionality.
Business features: Wix has built-in stores, bookings and over 800 apps. Framer focuses on the website itself and connects to other tools.
SEO: Both cover sitemaps, meta tags and redirects. Wix connects to Google Search Console through its SEO Setup Checklist.
Multilingual: Wix Multilingual supports over 180 languages; Framer sells localisation per locale.
Ownership: Both host your site on their own platform, and neither lets you export it to host elsewhere.
Cost
As of October 2026, Framer's pricing page lists a free plan, Basic at $10 a month and Pro at $30 a month, in US dollars with sales tax added at checkout. Basic covers 30 pages and 1,000 CMS items; Pro covers 150 pages and 2,500 CMS items. A custom domain needs a paid plan.
Wix's plans page showed us reference prices in US dollars for yearly plans paid up front: Light at $17.77 a month, Core at $29.77, Business at $39.77 and Business Elite at $159.77. Core and above include ecommerce and accepting payments. Wix says prices and currency vary by location, so check the UK price before you buy. Wix Studio, the version aimed at agencies, has its own plans page.
The platform fee is rarely the deciding cost. The build, add-ons and ongoing help matter more. Our guide to how much a website costs in the UK breaks it down.
Ease of editing for your team
Framer's on-page editing lets your team change text, images, component settings and CMS content directly on the live site, and add CMS pages. A collaborator with publishing permission then reviews and publishes the changes, which gives you a natural approval step.
Wix is familiar to many business owners, and its editor is designed for people who aren't developers. Wix Studio adds roles and permissions, real-time co-editing with comments on the canvas, and a Content Mode that lets clients edit content without changing the design. Both are comfortable for a non-technical team once the site is set up well.
Design freedom
Framer started as a design tool, so custom layouts, animation and interactions are built directly on the canvas. That's why it suits brand-led marketing sites where the look has to be exactly right.
Wix Studio has closed much of the gap. It offers stacked and grid layouts, custom breakpoints and custom CSS. It also goes further than Framer on functionality: developers can write frontend and backend code in a built-in code panel or their own IDE through GitHub, with NPM packages and APIs. If your site needs app-like features, that's a real advantage.
SEO and performance
Framer generates sitemap.xml and robots.txt automatically, lets you set titles and descriptions for every page and CMS item, optimises images and supports JSON-LD structured data. SSL certificates are generated automatically, and the pricing page lists a global CDN.
Wix keeps a sitemap updated automatically. With a Premium plan and a connected domain, its SEO Setup Checklist connects your site to Google Search Console and submits the sitemap for you. Both platforms give you what you need to rank. Content, structure and speed decide the rest, and our technical SEO work applies to both.
Ecommerce and business tools
This is where Wix is stronger. Wix Stores lets you sell physical and digital products, track inventory and manage orders, with payment providers suggested for your region. Wix Bookings handles appointments, classes and courses, with calendar sync to Google, Microsoft and Apple calendars. The Wix App Market lists over 800 apps, most of them free.
Framer's plans don't include a checkout or bookings. Framer stores usually connect Shopify, for example with the Framer Commerce plugin, and booking tools are added by embedding a third-party service. For bigger stores, see our Shopify web design service.
Multilingual sites and testing
Wix Multilingual lets you translate a site manually or automatically into over 180 languages, with SEO settings for each language and a choice of URL structure. Framer's localisation add-on is $20 per locale, up to 20, with optional AI translation.
For conversion work, Framer has built-in A/B testing through its Convert add-on on Pro and Enterprise plans, priced at $50 per 500,000 events. You can test up to five variants of a page against a click, form or page view goal, which makes it well suited to campaign landing pages.
Ownership, hosting and security
Both are fully hosted, so there are no servers or security patches to manage. The trade-off is the same on each: Wix sites must be hosted on Wix's servers, and Framer doesn't offer HTML export for self-hosting. Leaving either platform means a rebuild.
You can still own the account. Framer lets a project be transferred to another account with the site staying online, and we hand over Wix sites in the client's own Wix account too.
Moving from one to the other
There's no direct import between Wix and Framer, so a move means rebuilding the design and copying content across. The most important job is protecting your search traffic: list every URL on the old site, decide where each should go, and redirect anything that changes.
Wix allows up to 5,000 redirects per site, which only work with a custom domain. Framer redirects support wildcards but cover paths on your current domain only, so a domain change also needs a redirect at the old host. Our website redesign checklist covers the steps.
Which should you choose?
Choose Framer if
Your site is a marketing or lead generation site where design and brand matter most.
You want to run A/B tests on landing pages.
You don't need a built-in shop or bookings, or you'll use Shopify for selling.
You want a lower platform fee for a CMS site.
Choose Wix if
You want stores, bookings or memberships in one place, managed from one dashboard.
You need a multilingual site with per-language SEO settings.
Your site needs custom backend code or app-like features.
Your team already knows Wix and wants to keep running the site themselves.
How we can help
We build on both. Most of our sites are built in Framer, and we build and manage Wix Studio sites for clients who need Wix's business tools. Websites start from £7,500 with a fixed quote after discovery, and at handover we transfer the site to your own account. We set up GA4 and Microsoft Clarity tracking, and for landing pages we use Framer's A/B testing add-on.

Frequently asked questions
Is Framer better than Wix?
For design-led marketing sites and landing pages, Framer is often the better fit. For businesses that need a shop, bookings or many apps in one place, Wix is usually stronger.
Is Framer cheaper than Wix?
On platform fees, usually yes. As of October 2026 Framer's paid plans start at $10 a month, while Wix showed reference prices from $17.77 a month on yearly plans, though Wix's higher plans include ecommerce.
Is Framer or Wix better for SEO?
Both provide sitemaps, meta titles, descriptions and redirects, so either can rank well. Wix adds a setup checklist that connects Google Search Console; beyond that, content, structure and speed matter more than the platform.
Can I sell products on Framer like on Wix?
Not natively. Wix Stores is built in on Wix's higher plans, while Framer stores usually connect Shopify through a marketplace plugin.
Can I move my Wix site to Framer?
Yes, but it's a rebuild, because Wix sites can't be exported. We rebuild the design in Framer, move the content and set up redirects so your rankings are protected.
Can I host a Wix or Framer site elsewhere?
No. Wix sites must be hosted on Wix's servers, and Framer doesn't offer HTML export for self-hosting. If owning the code matters, look at WordPress instead.
